About Barton Sub-Aqua Club

Membership

Membership of Barton Sub Aqua Club is based on a calendar year i.e. 1st January to 31st December (same as the Sub Aqua Association <SAA>).

The club charges a fee for for a full diving member which includes free use of the club’s swimming pool facilities plus the SAA fee. Both Barton SAC and the SAA review the fee base annually (for Barton this is usually at the AGM normally in early December prior to the end of the club’s year) and will apply for both renewals and new entrants from January 1st.

Annual Membership consists of two parts:

1: Barton Sub-Aqua Club fee of £110.

This covers: use of the swimming pool at Ancholme Leisure Centre on training evenings, provision of SCUBA equipment for training purposes, maintenance of club equipment, including the Club’s emergency kit and, importantly, the Club’s boat.

The Club boat is a 5.4 metre RIB, a fast comfortable vessel which is capable of the transport of 6-8 divers to any dive site within a 25 mile range. It is fully equipped with wreck location devices and full safety equipment.

2: SAA fee. This is variable depending on the type of membership.

New Full membership is £50. All Trainees (irrespective of age) will also require a Student Pack, which includes the SAA Dive Manual at a cost of £40.

So a new adult who wants to learn to dive pays £200.

The Club also offers reduced rates for other restricted categories of membership, including associate and junior members.

The first year’s membership must be paid in full. All subsequent renewals can be spread over the year by standing order.

As a comparison the cost to be trained to PADI Open Water standard is about £270.

New members will require a FULL medical certification. This can be carried out by their GP or a doctor who carries out diving medicals on a regular basis, or a medical referee as listed on the SAA’s Diving Medical Form before SCUBA training can commence.

Subsequently, an annual self-declaration of fitness to dive is sufficient.
